Passport & Visa Requirements?

You must be in possession of a full passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of proposed departure. You can get a visa at the border.

Visas are issued FREE for South African passport holders and cost is approx. $50 [US Dollar] for other international passport holders.

The VISA cost does vary from time to time.

You can also obtain a visa before travelling, from the Mozambique consulate in your own country if there is one.


Currency & Changing Money?

Restaurants, bars and shops in Ponta Do Ouro, Mozambique accept Mozambique Meticals [MZN] and South African Rands [ZAR].

We accept payments in US Dollars, Euros, UK Pounds and South African Rands and Mozambique Meticals.

If you prefer to pay your bill by Credit Card a 5% charge to cover bank charges will be added to your bill.


Travelling with anyone under the age of 18-years old?

South Africa have recently changed the law on immigration when travelling with a child under 18-years old.

Can we do Shark and Reef Diving or only shark diving?

We offer shark and reef diving for qualified divers only.

ScubaAddicts have always specialised in diving [mainly with sharks].

We have recently expanded this to offer a mix of shark and reef diving.

If you would prefer to do ONLY shark diving then that is fine too.


What happens if we miss a scuba dive?

If scuba dives are cancelled due to weather, you will receive a refund for the scuba dive.

If we can't get to the shark reefs [weather] but we can get to the closer reefs, you can select to dive or get a refund.

If you are scheduled to do a dive and can't [due to hangover etc.] then you will lose the dive.


What should I bring?

The area is very casual, and generally the weather is very good

All you should need is shorts, t-shirts, trousers, shirts, costumes and a wind breaker.

Shoes or sneakers, sandals, suntan lotion, sunglasses. In winter a jacket, sweatshirt or sweaters are advisable.

You will also require personal items such as mosquito repellent, aspirin, decongestants, shampoo, toothpaste etc.

A warm water-proof jacket is also a good idea.

We provide towels for the rooms and pool but you may want to bring a towel for the beach.


Electrical Adapters

Mozambique uses the same electrical adapters as South Africa. Most international plugs don't work in Mozambique or South Africa.

We do have some electrical adapters at the lodge that take UK & European plugs but it is generally better to get adapters prior to arrival.


What medical precautions should I take?

No compulsory vaccinations are required. Please contact your travel doctor for advice on what is recommended.

If travelling from a country with yellow fever, a yellow fever vaccination is required.

Mozambique is a Malaria Area so please contact your travel doctor for advice on what is recommended.


What are the average Summer [October to March] temperatures?

Daytime Temperature : 27C - 34C

Water Temperature : 24C - 26C


What are the average Winter [May to September] temperatures?

Daytime Temperature : 18C - 26C

Water Temperature : 20C - 24C


What are the general climate conditions?

September to November : Warm, dry & sometimes windy in the afternoon, sea conditions are calm in the morning.

December to February : Very warm and can be humid. Sea is calm in the morning becoming choppy & windy later.

March to May : Warm and we generally have very little wind. Sea conditions are usually calm.

June to August : Generally warm & dry. Sea conditions are generally calm.


What do the breakfasts consist of?

Your stay includes a full breakfast starting with muesli, yoghurt & fruit-salad and a cooked breakfast which includes eggs, bacon, tomato and toast served with orange juice & tea or coffee.

Please advise if you have any special diet requirements before arriving.


Lunches & Dinners?

During your stay with us, you can enjoy lunch & dinner at the lodge as well as at some of the local restaurants.


Are tips required?

Tipping is optional, the normal amount is 10% at restaurants etc.

Tips for the staff are optional but they do appreciate any tips.


What is the situation with food & water?

Drink lots of water to avoid dehydration. There is no reason why you should become ill but often the change in food and environment can cause illness. A combination of too much sun and alcohol can also cause problems. Bottled water is recommended in Mozambique.


What time zone is Mozambique in?

Mozambique : GMT + 2 hours.


How much spending money do I need?

The only spending money you will require will be for lunch, dinner, drinks, souvenirs & tips etc.

Most places accept credit cards & there is an ATM machine available.

It is advisable to carry some cash as credit cards can not be processed in the event of a power failure.
