Sardine Run in South Africa

Welcome to ScubaAddicts and our Sardine Run South Africa packages.

We have been offering Sardine Run packages for the past 13-years and the last 10-years we have had an exclusive deal with Cremorne Estate in Port St Johns, rated as one of the best locations for the Sardine Run in South Africa.

Our Sardine Run packages are aimed at divers wanting to get up-close and personal with a HUGE variety of marine-life including dolphin, sharks, whales, game fish, seals, penguins, millions of sardines and many species of marine-birds. During the Sardine Run, the annual Humpback Whale migration passes Port St Johns, offering some amazing up-close sightings of the Humpback Whales, in the water, close to the boats and when the whales are breaching!

Why Port St Johns?

We operate our Sardine Run in Port St Johns because it means we are centrally located and can cover the area from Coffee Bay in the south to Mbotyi in the north depending on where the action is. We also have direct access to the river and the main launch site for the Sardine Run.

Join us for the ultimate Sardine Run Adventure!

Craig, Shona and the ScubaAddicts team.

About the Sardine Run

The Sardine Run takes place in Port St Johns during June & July.

We select the middle weeks to give us the best chance of getting the best action. It's also why we are centrally based in Port St Johns which means we can cover the area from Coffee Bay in the south to Mbotyi in the north.

As the colder water moves up the east coast of South Africa, the sardines follow the currents and their food source, bringing a huge diversity of predators with them including many species of whales, shark, dolphin, game fish, sailfish, penguins, seals and more.

Many theories exist about the Sardine Run [water temp. etc] and many people have different ideas on what creates the 'perfect' Sardine Run, however from our experience we have seen great action on days when the conditions are not 'perfect' and quiet days when they are. The bottom line is that the only way to experience the Sardine Run is to enjoy what you see everyday.

Whilst the Sardine Run can never be Guaranteed, one thing that is guaranteed is that you WILL see whales, sharks, 100's of dolphin and marine birds which are on most people's bucket list.

We have a massive number of our customers that return each year which is a great testament to the ScubaAddicts Sardine Run Adventure!

Sardine Run

The Sardine Run offers activity from the boat as well as in the water. We enter the water as many times as possible during the day, sometimes just on snorkel and other times on scuba, depending on how fast the action is moving and how comfortable the animals are as sometimes the bubbles from scuba diving chases the action away.

The Sardine Run is amazing, you are often surrounded by hundreds of dolphin, sharks, diving birds, whales, game fish, seals and millions of sardines. During the Sardine Run, the annual Humpback Whale migration passes Port St Johns, offering some amazing up-close sightings of the Humpback Whales in the water, close to the boats and when the whales are breaching! -- read more.

NEW 'Shark Reef' found this year!

Towards the end of this year [2016] Sardine Run we dived a reef off Port St Johns and found it to be home to 100's of Ragged Tooth Sharks as well as other sharks! So from 2017 we will be diving this reef each day if the Sardine Run action only allows us to snorkel and freedive and not to scuba dive. This gives us the best of both world's, shark diving and the Sardine Run!

Below are some picture taken on the 'Shark Reef' dive off Port St Johns this year.
